Kevin Gordon Cameron (68) of New Glasgow, formerly of East River St. Mary’s passed away on January 9th, 2024. Born on March 29, 1955, Kevin was the son of the late Daniel Gordon and Anna Vivian (Greene) Cameron. Kevin enjoyed his first 58 years with his loving parents in East River St. Mary’s where he was actively involved in family farm activities. Kevin attended elementary school in the one room schoolhouse in East River St. Mary’s, and was later homeschooled by his mother where he learned to become an avid reader. Kevin later attended the Activity Center, and the Summer Street Industries Day Programs. Kevin was an active member in his community growing up, and was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church. In his younger days, he would daily walk a ten-kilometer loop, pushing his bicycle, and visiting friends and neighbors along the way. Kevin had a special love for music and enjoyed watching live performances where he was known to stand up and pretend he was the conductor. Kevin was also a member of the Summer Street Industries Voice Choir. In 2013, Kevin moved to New Glasgow and was employed with DCS Project 50 at the Pictou County Wellness Center/YMCA in kitchen and laundry, retiring in 2019. Kevin loved his Pugwash cottage time each summer where he enjoyed mackerel fishing, golfing, reading on the deck, campfires, yard sales and his cottage friends. He enjoyed sharing his adventures with his Facebook community, and loved to read everyone’s posts. Kevin in survived by sisters: Kaye (Jim) Barbour, Margie (Brian) MacCallum, Rosanna (Stephen) Greene; brother Doug (Margie) Cameron; best friend John (Jack) Sziron; and many nieces and nephews who dearly loved their Uncle Kevin. Kevin was predeceased by parents Gordon and Anna Cameron, and siblings Grace Ann Cameron and Daniel William Cameron. Many who knew Kevin will remember his firm handshake greeting, and his sincere interest in knowing your name. His twinkle in his eye and nurturing soul created such joy for all who loved him. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the Palliative Care team, and to the VON who provided comfort and care in Kevin’s last days. Arrangements are under the direction of H.W.
