Obituary of Joseph Michael Daniec

In Memoriam: Joseph "Joe" Daniec It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph "Joe" Daniec, a beloved resident of Stellarton and a former Red Rower, who left us on January 7, 2024, at the age of 75. Joe was a longstanding member of the Stellarton community, having arrived in Canada from Austria in 1951 with his parents, Joseph and Maria "Mary" (Zallinger) Daniec. His roots in the town ran deep, and he contributed to the fabric of Stellarton in various ways throughout his life. During his early years, Joe worked at the Scotsburn dairy, served as a taxi dispatcher, and became most fondly remembered as the dedicated crosswalk guard for the Red Row. His commitment to ensuring the safety of others left an indelible mark on the community. Joe is survived by his life partner of 38 years, Cassie (Riggs) MacDonald, and will be lovingly remembered by his brothers John Daniec, Mitchell Daniec, Paul Daniec, brother-in-law Gerry Silliker, and stepchildren Robert Fraser, Brian Fraser, Gary Fraser, and Kathy Dewtie. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Maria, and sisters Freda Daniec, Susan Silliker, and Rita Daniec. Joe leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren who will cherish the memories they shared with him. A well-known figure in Stellarton, Joe was recognized for his passion for Bingo and unwavering support for the New York Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. His infectious enthusiasm and friendly demeanor made him a beloved member of the community. His compassion also extended to the animal kingdom, where he formed special bonds with cats and dogs in the neighborhood. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Harvey McNeil, Joe's devoted best friend, who stood by him during treatments and willingly provided support, including transportation to any necessary appointments. In accordance with Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place, and the family will not be receiving visitors. A burial of ashes will be held at a later date to honor his memory. The community of Stellarton mourns the loss of a dedicated individual whose kindness, warmth, and sense of community touched the lives of many. May Joe rest in peace, and may his legacy continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
