Obituary of Colin Bernard

Bernard, Colin passed away peacefully in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow surrounded by family.
He was born in the Pictou Landing First Nation on October 1st 1938, to the late Chief William Bernard and Annie Syliboy-Bernard. Colin resided not only in Pictou Landing First Nation but Framingham Massachusetts for many years, where he and his wife started their family. He and his brothers traveled to different states, where they worked odd jobs to provide for their families. Colin and Susie traveled back to Pictou Landing in 1969, where they settled and had their 3 youngest children. They had 9 children, 29 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren whom they loved dearly.
Colin was a woodsman who worked at many places, he enjoyed working in the woods, where he would also make wreaths to provide for his family. He spent most summers camping and attending church with his kids and wife at Malikomjk, where they continued with their eldest grandchildren. Colin loved to go for drives and walks, as he was always drawn to nature. In his early years he would go trapping with his sons, apple picking and eeling with his kids. His family meant so much to him, as he loved to get together for a celebration, and was always up for having a good meal.
Surviving are his sisters; Catherine (Wisconsin), Bernadette, Mary (Alan) of PLFN; his children, Wallace, Douglas (Josie), Darren (Myra), Allen, Bridget (Dennis), Valerie, Sylvia (Gary) , sister in-law; Barbara Prosper, Godson; Gary, many nieces and nephews, his 26 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Susie, a son; Brian, daughters; Joyce and Brenda. grandchildren; Jeremy, Shawndalyn and Justine, brothers; Frank, Leonard, Bernie, Patrick, Sisters; Yvonne, Mary Agnes, and Mary Gladys.
His remains will rest at his home at 157 Beach Rd, Pictou Landing First Nation starting at 1pm on Tuesday January 9, 2024.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Thursday January 11, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation with Father Tom MacNeil presiding. Burial will take place in the spring.
