Obituary of Joyce Murray
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce’s greatest love was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren answering to the name of gamamma, Nena and nanny Willie. She was a sister, mother, grandmother, best friend and taxi driver to her family and friends and all who had the honour of being in her life. She had the most contagious laugh that never failed to make you laugh along with her.
She was a strong woman who never gave up. She battled cancer 27 years ago and was grateful for all the time she had been given, embracing life to its fullest.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Thorburn and an avid bingo enthusiast. She always cherished her Thursday night bingo games with her best friends Bev and Lewie Feit even when they could never win the big jackpots. She loved her prize bingos and spending time with the ladies in her Red Hatter group.
She took great pride in being the community Avon lady for thirty years where she enjoyed many cups of tea and snacks while making new friends.
She was a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan and rarely missed a game, cheering them on from her favorite chair.
She loved her soap operas and her Christmas movies, even at the end, she enjoyed all things Christmas. While at her daughter’s, she insisted the tree and decorations go up early and gratefully, she had time to enjoy the Christmas spirit, her most loved time of year.
She is survived by her daughters Connie Murray, Pictou; Cathy (Barry) Hayman, Bedford son Pete (Cherie) Murray, Thorburn; grandchildren T.J. (Emily) Hayman, Truro; Tommy (Corina) Hayman, Bedford; Austin Edwards-Hayman, Bedford; Brandon Scanlan, Pictou; Maddie Scanlan (Owen), Pictou and their father Kelly Scanlan; Savanna Murray, Thorburn 2 great-grandchildren Charlie and Archie; brothers Gerald (Margie) Stewart, New Glasgow; James Stewart, Truro; sister Cindy Anderson, New Glasgow.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald; brothers Arnold and Sam Stewart.
