Obituary of Fraser Ralston Dykens

Please share a memory of Fraser to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Fraser Ralston Dykens, affectionately known as Dasher. A resident of Stellarton (red row), he was the son of Robert and Elsie Dykens. In his younger years, he drove Taxi for Jim’s Taxi. He also spent a few years at Maritime Steel, and eventually retired from Hawker Siddeley after 35 years. He was an avid baseball player and long time fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He also won many dart tournaments in Pictou County with branch 34 Royal Canadian Legion, New Glasgow. He was a man who enjoyed the mechanics of how things worked and was forever tinkering and fixing whatever needed fixing. That naturally evolved into a love of woodworking where he was always taking whatever materials he could find and crafting things like birdhouses, shelves, signs… you name it. When he wasn’t working away in his workshop, he spent countless hours at baseball fields, hockey rinks and other events watching his grandchildren and enjoying his family. A man of routine, you could set your watch by his daily car trips to the post office, mall, and other spots around town. He was a quiet man, but always sharp as a tack and never missed an opportunity to insert a clever quip or comical remark into any conversation. He will be missed dearly by all who were honoured to know him. He is survived by his longtime partner, Louise, daughters Jaye (Wayne) of Stellarton, Shelley and Donna (Earl) of New Glasgow, brother, Baker of Westville, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Kelsey, Shelley‘s family, Jennifer, Jaclyn, Jayme, and Jillian. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Emmett, Llewyn, Iris, Edison, Layla, Kellen and Kai. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Bobby, Danny and Neil, and by his sisters Violet, Thelma, Elaine and Etta, and grandson, Tyler. The family will receive visitors in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral home, Stellarton on Thursday, August 31 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM with a short service to follow. Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made to the palliative care unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or the SPCA of Pictou County. The family would like to thank the staff of the fourth floor of the Aberdeen Hospital, and the palliative care staff for the care and compassion shown to Fraser.” www.angusfuneralhomes.com
