Obituary of John William Alexander Penney

John William Alexander “Alex” Penney, age 59, of Stellarton, passed away on August 20, 2023 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow he was a son of the late John William Alexander and Margaret Rose (Dunn) Penney. Alex was employed with Pioneer Coal in Stellarton for 27 years. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his buddies in the garage. He was a die-hard Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan. Alex loved Sunday supper with his family and was the best Dad, Papa, and friend you could ask for. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jennifer (Stewart); children Carrie (Bob) McLaughlin and their children Paige, Madison, Taylor, Payton and Jake; Andrew (Lindsay) Penney and his daughter Sailyr; Sarah (Kass) MacInnis and their children Rilie, John, Jack, and Raya; Katie (Tyler) Swan and their children Evan, Gracie and Will; brother Jason (Bernadette) Penney and their son Jack; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Susan Hoare, Margaret Ann Penney, niece Tanya Penney; nephews Bernie “Boo” and George. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday, August 24, 2023 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 25, 2023 in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating.
