In Loving Memory
Douglas Hugh Franklyn (Frank) MacLaughlin
Frank was born December 6th, 1932, in Glenelg. He was the son of the late Russell MacLaughlin and Carrie (Hattie) MacLaughlin. Frank was in his 20’s when his father passed and he, without hesitation, stepped into a father role to help his mother raise his younger siblings. During his father’s illness, he met a caring young nurse at the Sherbrooke hospital, Marion Rebecca MacDonald, who would become the love of his life, his wife, and lifelong partner. They married in 1964, eventually settling in Sherbrooke to raise their two children, Janis and Shawn.
Frank started his career in the forestry industry at a young age, and his love of the forest continued throughout his 40 year career. Following his career, his love of the forest continued for the remainder of his life, including cutting firewood, clearing boundary lines, making trails on his wood lots, and spending time with his family there.
Dad was the best Husband and Father any wife, daughter, son, and daughter-in-law could ever hope to have. Dad put family first, in all he did.
Frank had a passion for all things outdoors, including snowmobiling, ATVing, canoeing, and spending time with his family and beloved dogs at his camp in Smithfield. Many memories were made at the camp around the big wood stove, enjoying Thanksgiving meals and family gatherings over the years.
Dad had a keen sense of humour, a very strong and honourable character, he was always humble, and was always willing to help anyone, or any animal, in need. His kindness knew no bounds.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Marion, his daughter, Janis, his son, Shawn, his daughter-in-law, Shona, his beloved dogs, Kelly and Logan, his beloved horses, Becca and Hemi, his twin sister, Beth, brothers Arch, Ernie, Lowell, Arnold, George, and Marshall, sisters Florence, Ruth, and Louise, brothers-in-law Sandy MacDonald and Graham MacDonald, sisters-in-law Barbara MacDonald, Erica MacDonald, Beverly MacLaughlin, Gwen MacLaughlin, and Martha MacLaughlin, and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his father, Russell, his mother, Carrie, brothers Herbie, John, and Lloyd, brothers-in-law Louis McKay, Bill Orr, Murray MacDonald, Kent MacDonald, and Grant MacDonald, sisters-in-laws Betty MacDonald, Evelyn MacDonald, and Elizabeth MacDonald.
Frank’s family wish to thank Dr. McLean, the nurses and staff of the St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital in Sherbrooke, and the EHS Clinicians for the compassionate and excellent care received.
Dad, you will be forever missed but will forever be in our hearts.
