Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Ellen MacCallum – 69, Stellarton. With heavy hearts, love and treasured memories, the family of Barbara Ellen MacCallum (nee MacKean) announce her passing on Monday, July 10, 2023. Born in Stellarton, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Donald and late Isabel (MacKay) MacKean. Mom was happily employed as an ECG Tech in the Heart Clinic at the Aberdeen Hospital for over 30 years. She would often be seen pushing her cart through the halls of the hospital and treated all patients with a gentle kindness and respect. To maintain her “slush fund”, she also can be remembered for selling her Avon for years while working and after retirement. She was passionate about her family and friends. Mom had a great time bowling with her friends and attending curling tournaments with dad as much as she could. She enjoyed crafting with the sewing girls, scrapbooking or crocheting on cold winter nights, and a cool glass of wine in the summer evenings surrounded by her beautiful pots of annuals. She had a passion for getting out of town whenever she could. Whether she was at her brother’s cottage on Sinclair’s Island, laying by the pool in Cuba, or playing with her grandchildren in Ontario she was up for the adventure and relaxation. As a proud grandmother, she was excited to be at the hockey rink and baseball diamond cheering on her grandchildren for a well played game. Mom was a member of the Stellarton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered countless hours and weekends serving families on their special occasions. She made many happy memories and long-lasting friendships with the Ladies Auxiliary and was honored to have served with them. Barb will be reunited in heaven with her late husband of 49 years Edward MacCallum. She is survived by her son Mark (Carrie); daughter Erin (Steve); grandchildren Reade, Cameron, Max, Jack, Savanna, and Zoe; great-grandchildren Mason and Jaxon; sister Margaret (Malcolm) Clement; sister Brenda (Charles) Barss; brother Gerald (Jennifer); nephews Gerald, Jason, Bruce, and Jamie; nieces Lisa, Sarah, Lauren, and Arlene. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Aberdeen Hospital and the Maritime Oddfellows Home for their compassion and care. Visitation service will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023, at H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, 18 Acadia Avenue, Stellarton. A family graveside service will be held at the Brookside Cemetery, East River Road, New Glasgow at 1 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023, followed by a celebration of Barbara’s life at the Stellarton Fire Hall from 2-3 p.m. In Remembrance by Christine Currah You gave me life To live as I please, You gave me love and Support to follow my dreams.
