Obituary of John Simon Prosper

John Simon Prosper “Daddy” January 27th, 1945 – June 12th, 2023 We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle. John Simon Prosper Passed away peacefully in the wee hours at the QEll Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by his wife and children as he took his last breaths. He was the son of the late John Prosper Sr. and Agnes (Nicholas) Prosper having both been born in New Glasgow, NS. John Simon Prosper was born at the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow, NS and was a lifelong resident of Pictou Landing First Nation Community as well as a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. In John’s younger years he owned his own construction company JSP Construction for 30 years, He was also a Councillor for 22 years with the Pictou Landing Band Council. John loved to play hockey back in the day. He was an awesome bowler and loved playing in his years with “The Bandits”. John was a volunteer firefighter in his community many years ago. John was very proud of his large family. John and his wife Barbara had 10 children (2 chosen) together in their 56 years of marriage. They have 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. John was so loved by them all. Surviving is his wife Barbara, sisters; Freda, Caroline, brother; Cyrl, sons; Steven, Walter (Greta), John Daniel, Aaron (Lindsey), daughters; Donna, Laurie, Karen, Joanne and Nancy. Numerous nieces and nephews and his godchildren Sally Duff, Simon Prosper and Leroy Denny, chosen brother Terry (Mary) Prosper. John was predeceased by his parents John and Agnus Prosper, his Son Christopher Prosper, brothers; Henery, Joey, Arthur and Stan, sisters; Margret, Audry and Madeline, grandchildren; Terrance Priest and Chelsea Lynn Brooks (at infancy). His remains will rest at his late residence 6570 Pictou Landing Road after 3pm Thursday June 15th 2023. Mass Christian Burial will be held 11am Saturday June 17, 2023 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church with Father Tom MacNeil presiding. Burial will be at the Parish Cemetery following the service. Special thanks are going out to his beloved Dialysis Teams at St. Marthas Hospital in Antigonish and Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Pictou. Also special thanks to Dr. Cathy Felderhof, for her compassionate care and the Nurses at the Palliative Care Unit that cared for him at the QEll Hospital.
