Obituary of Gordon Joseph Best

Gordon Joseph Best age 85 of Churchville, Pictou Co. passed away on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary (MacDonald) Best and stepfather Jock Fielding. Gordon worked hard all his life. Over the years he worked forestry, worked for L.E. Shaw, the Labourer’s Union and the School Board. Gordon was very handy mechanically; he could fix anything he put his hands on. He loved fishing and hunting, having spent many days on the water and at his camp. Gordon is survived by his wife of 65 years Valerie Best (MacLellan), a son Gary (Violet), granddaughters Ashley Best and Megan Best (Heather), great granddaughters Emersyn and Juniper whom he loved and loved to see; sisters Vena (Percy) McCallum, Marie Irving, Gail Snair and brother Gary Best (Brenda), brothers -in-law Gordie Henderson, Wayne MacLellan (Charlene), sisters-in-law June Fisher and Alice MacLellan. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Gordon was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by a sisters Anne Henderson and Sylvia Stewart, brothers-in law John Irving and Wayne Snair. Very special thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital for their care. The family will receive visitors from 11 A.M. until service time at 2 P.M. on Saturday May 13th in the H. W. Angus Funeral Home. A memorial service will then be held at 2 P.M. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home.
