James Robert Ivey
1949-2023
James Robert Ivey, known as Jim by many, and as Papa by his three greatly beloved grandchildren, was welcomed home to his Father’s house in heaven by his Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, on May 3, 2023 at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 29 years, Lucy Ann (Cummings), Jim’s parents, Emma (Ingraham) and Robert Ivey, and his sister Mary (Walter) Letcher.
He is survived by his three children, Kimberly (Philip) Nickerson, Brian Ivey and Stephen (Nicole) Ivey, and his three cherished grandchildren, Lucy, Kera, and Edmund, whom he doted upon at every opportunity. Also surviving James are his five other siblings, Doris Snell, Beverly (Brian) Marks, Theresa (Doug) Ivey, Edward Ivey, and Ann (Dougald) MacLellan, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Losing his father at the age of 11, James grew up on the homestead in Margaree with his siblings under the care of their grandmother. Though a tightly knit group, there were hard times, which led him to be a very hard worker determined to provide well for his wife and family. He left the homestead to work as a lumberjack in Ontario for a number of years before returning to Pictou County where he worked faithfully for many years at a local service station on East River Rd.
Upon moving to Pictou County, he met his devoted, patient wife Lucy Ann, who invited him to the gospel tent meetings in Stellarton. Under the sound of the precious Word of God there, he heard the gospel message that “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”. From then on, he owned Jesus as his Lord and maintained a firm faith in Christ through to the end of his life. In his last days, he desired the comfort of having the scriptures read to him, and often expressed his desire and certain hope to be with his precious Lord Jesus and Lucy Ann in heaven.
James will be greatly missed, and remembered by his family for his faith, his feisty spirit, and his incredible generosity, especially to his children and in later years to his grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Baptist Church, Westville, at 11am Friday May 5, 2023 with Pastor Ryan King presiding. A reception will follow at the same location for all those in attendance.
