Obituary of Margaret Irene Francis

Pictou Landing First Nation - With Heavy Hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Margaret Francis (Marg) aged 63. Who passed away suddenly on April 29th, 2023.
Born in New Glasgow on March 15th, 1960, she was a daughter of the late Louis Joseph and Ruby Irene (Knockwood) Francis.
Marg was a lifelong community member of Pictou Landing First Nation who spent some of her early years working and living in the United States. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. Despite her health challenges in recent years, Marg was determined to power through, A true warrior in the eyes of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She took pride in her work, regardless of the task. She was most proud to have built her daughter’s house as a Native woman carpenter. Bowling and socializing with her friends and family was a favorite pastime of Marg’s, her genuine laugh filled a room and silly jokes made everyone smile. Each year, she looked forward to working on her yard and firepit, to get it ready for summer nights and a cold can of Keith’s. The Pictou Landing First Nation Lighthouse Beach was her sanctuary, she would walk the beach regularly and pray for all those who needed them.
Surviving is her sister Sarah Clark and foster sister, Frances Nicholas of Pictou Landing First Nation; sidekick & daughter, Michelle (Dominic); Sons, Bryan, and Kolton who would move earth to ensure her happiness. Grandchildren, Logan (Katie), Oliver, Shyanna, Summer, Bradjij, Kalem, Kayden, Jayden, Ariel and godchild, Jerryjij. Marg loved her family very deeply and was a big part of the lives of her nieces and nephews.
Marg was predeceased by her parents, brothers: Douglas, Matthew, Wilfred, Gerald, Joseph, Kenneth, Noel, Larry, and Peter, also a brother in infancy and her dear sister Brenda.
Her remains will rest at her home, “Oceanfront Property”, 101 Beach Road., Pictou Landing First Nation, for open visitation Thursday after 1 pm until Funeral Mass, which will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church with Father MacDonald Ibeh officiating.
Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery followed by a gathering with a meal and Salite’

There will be an open visitation at her home "Oceanfront Property" 101 Beach Road, Pictou Landing First Nation starting on Thursday, May 4 at 1 pm until the time of the funeral mass Saturday May 6 at 1 pm
