Obituary of Marjorie Phyllis Polley
Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that the family of Marjorie Polley share the news of her passing on April 16, 2023, at Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton, N.S. at the age of 87.
Marjorie was born to the late Daniel Alexander and Emily Matilda Wood (Clyburne) on April 3, 1936, in Eden Lake, N.S. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Alexander (Sandy) Polley, her sisters Jessie Kaiser and Edna Hambleton as well as her brother, Fred Wood. She is survived by her two children: Peter (Kelley) of Halifax, N.S. and Adam (Nicole) Polley of Ingleside ON. She was affectionately known as Grandma to her cherished grandchildren: Sarah and Katie Polley of Halifax, Chelsea (Andrew) Warden of Ottawa ON and Joshua (Nathalie) Polley of Cornwall, ON as well as five great grandchildren – Zoe, Emma, Alexia, Alexandre and Ayden.
Marjorie grew up on a hilltop farm overlooking beautiful Eden Lake, N.S. and loved to tell stories about life on the farm in rural Nova Scotia as a young girl in a bygone era.
Marjorie met the love of her life, Sandy Polley, at a dance in New Glasgow, changing both of their lives forever. They married in 1963 and settled in Pictou Landing, remaining there as long as she was able in the home that they had built together for their new young family. Marjorie was a member of the Pictou Landing Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Marjorie was a quiet, softspoken woman that was devoted to her family. She loved gardening, flowers, and her many pets over the years including several family dogs, Tom the Cat, and her beloved ducks. She developed an interest in photography in later life and over the years collected a huge number of ceramic and glass shoe ornaments, numbering in the hundreds from around the world.
The family is very grateful to Marjorie’s caregiver – Marg Rorison for her many hours of companionship, loyalty, and dedication over the last several years. The family also thanks the staff of Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Home who helped care for Marjorie over the last three years of her life.
