Obituary of Justin David Holmes

Please share a memory of Justin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Holmes, Justin David- We are sad to announce the death of Justin David Holmes, age 40 (born on July 29th of 1982). Justin was a quiet, very private soul; a son, grandson, and brother who was loved and will be deeply missed. Justin was predeceased by his father, David Kingsley Holmes and his grandfather, Kingsley Holmes of Hedgeville, his grandparents, Betty and Ira Elliott of Toney River, and his step grandparents, Hector and Kilmeny MacLean of Merigomish. Justin is survived by his mother, Janet MacLean, stepfather, Gordon H. MacLean, and his paternal grandmother, Nanny Marie Holmes. His older sister, Wendy Doiron (Caleb MacIvor), and younger brother, Gregory H. MacLean (Ali Butler Hebert) mourn his loss. Justin considered Wendy’s children, Annabelle, Remy, and Kelcey, to be her greatest treasures and they are being raised with sweet thoughts and stories of their Uncle Justin. Justin will be remembered by his aunts, uncles, and many cousins in Nova Scotia and across Canada. Justin grew up in Pictou County and lived in Fort McMurray for most of his last 15 years. He attended Frank H. MacDonald Elementary and East Pictou Rural High until graduating in 2002. He loved the natural world and animals in particular. He revealed his soft heart, caring for an injured bird and bringing home stray puppies. Justin was a thrill-seeker who pulled himself up to reach the handles of his sister’s tricycle before he’d even learned to walk. This was just the beginning. He enjoyed riding through forest trails and racing on dirt bikes and 4-wheelers. Justin’s passion for speed paired well with his natural ability to tinker with and fix any vehicle. Justin took small motor repair at community college in Dartmouth and completed the Heavy Equipment Operator program in Debert. Over his life he worked at Adventure Motors, Williams Brothers Ltd, Dexter Construction, and Suncor in Fort McMurray. Justin loved the solitude of the wilderness and we hope his soul has found that peace now. A private remembrance of Justin’s life will take place at the H. W. Angus Funeral Home for family and close friends from 3-4 pm on Friday, March 31st. Following this, any friends wishing to mark this time of Justin’s passing are invited to join his family at an informal reception-visitation from 4-6 pm. Donations may be made in Justin’s memory to jack.org, a Canadian charitable non-profit organization focused on youth mental health and suicide prevention. Take care. Get care.
