Jonny, my Brother
Jonny could brighten up a room with a loud "hello", a belly laugh and a "howdie brother".
He could wake up the night with that very same belly laugh he could not always control.
He'd show up at times with notice and at times not, enter without a knock and bee line for the kitchen.
If he ran into you on that path you'd get the big "HELLOOO", if not he'd look for food on the counter, then fridge, then if needed the pantry.
1 time he found the chocolate cake, stale and moldy throughout. He didn't waste time, cut a large square piece and started to eat. I walked into the kitchen as I had been up stairs. He looked at me gave that big hello greeting with a mouth full of moldy cake. I said "Jonny, what are you eating?" as he hadn't turned on many lights. He said "I found some cake on the counter". I said "oh no, that's been there awhile, you might not want to eat that". He said "oh its moldy, its actually fuzzy".
I said "Jonny throw it out". He finished the rest in 2 bites and said "its not the worst thing I've eaten this week". He belly laughed, woke up my late wife and likely the kids. "Possibly not the worst thing I even ate today. Now come here and give me a hug brother". We laughed so hard.
Cheryl came down the stairs, stared at us, scolding me, both in silence. "Hi Jonny" she said, quietly. "Do you guys mind, were trying to sleep." She turned and headed up stairs with a good night and Jonny says "sorry dude" and we giggled and laughed some more.
Cheryl unfortunately was woken many times over the years. Jonny had some volume control issues and the 2 of us lost time together, laughed a lot, debated some and talked about everything under the sun and the moon.
You made me better Jonny, a better dad, a better husband, friend and human. You were the best of us, you believed in the best of us. This got you in trouble at times, as I, the survivor my whole life, only saw trouble ahead.
I'll miss you brother till my last breath. You sir, were really important in my life!
love ya Jonny!

My sympathies and condolences to Jonathon’s friends and family. I had the pleasure of working with Jonathon and I swear this guy was the MacGyver of EMS. Once we realized we both had the same pocketknife, then out of nowhere he whips out this side kit that turned it into a socket and ratchet set that he was just carrying on him. He was a pleasant man to be around and I looked up to him. May God have mercy on him.

Q: How would you describe Jonathon to someone who had never met them?
A: Jonathon loved to be loving, and filled every room with his beautiful smile and kind laugh. He was a treasure, and I am so thankful to have worked with him at Camp Geddie in his element outdoors and with children. This photo is of him lighting up the dining hall in July of 1998.
With much love to his family from Amy Bennett.

Jonathon came to Plymouth in the South of the UK to improve his remote medical skills. I t was easy to pass on the tricks and tips that I had learned over the years Jonathon was a sponge.
As he was a long way from home we took him under our wing and made a friend. We soon learnt though that like a Gremlin, you don't feed him a curry before you work in a confined space. He loved very spicy food and was a big hit with my wife's hispanic friends. He is sadly missed. We are so sorry that he didn't reach out. Paul Newton.

Words will never be able to capture what Jonathon meant to me and so many others. One of my first memories of moving to Nova Scotia involves him: we were partnered up for the school play as "dancers" because we were both tall for 5th graders. He was the first boy to ask me out, in a letter (I still have it). My time in Nova Scotia wasn't very long in the grand scheme of things but he was one of my dearest friends and is woven into all of my memories of that time. We stayed in touch over the years and it always seemed like no time had passed. I will miss his smile, his infectious laugh, and his kind soul.

Q: What was Jonathon's favorite recipe?
A: Hello Jonathan's family ! And Jonathan because I know he is listening :)
My name is Amy. I was a coworker with Jon. He was always feeding me even when I wasn't hungry. He made Nanna Mabel's tea biscuits and he shared them with me. They were so good I asked for the recipe. He was kind enough to share it and I still have it today. I have not perfected it like he had when he made them! I will fondly look back at his memory. Thank you Nanna Mabel :)

Q: What will you never forget about Jonathon?
A: At the beginning and throughout my career as a paramedic, I remember working many times with Jonathon. He was such a breath of fresh air. Most of the paramedics I worked with then, tended to be hard on the newbies.
It was a stressful time, starting a new career with no experience. He always had supportive uplifting things to say, and meant them. He often told me that if I ever needed someone to talk to, just to call him.
I remember his big smile and wonderful laugh, every time we'd run into each other, at work or at a conference. I will never forget the kindness he showed me, and his remarkable spirit that touched so many. You made your mark on so many of us. Rest easy my friend.

Q: What will you never forget about Jonathon?
A: He was the kind of person you always looked to have in your day, and wherever you went you hoped to see, kind of like looking for sunshine.
Jonathon was a friend from camp, but he soon became the kind of friend I wanted in all of life. Circumstances kept us from each other’s doorsteps, we did not walk the same roads, but his life was a light in mine and many people’s lives.
I will never stop looking for examples of his love and compassion in the world.

Q: What will you miss most about Jonathon?
A: Jonathon was one of the very few medic that I’ve had the opportunity to work with in the Oil and Gas Industry. His smile, knowledge and ability to make a difficult day, not so bad after all. His teamwork and ability to transfer his knowledge to his peers in many ways. But most of all his generosity and presence. Always there when needed. May you find peace and watch over us from up above. Till we meet again my friend. RIP.

How very sad I am to read this! I was the nurse at Camp Kintail for 10 yrs so all the counsellors thru the years became my camp family! What a wonderful life Jonathon led, making such positive contributions to humanity along the way that will never be forgotten. May he roam the heavenly forests and discover wondrous waterfalls, glorious sunsets and glowing rainbows. My heart goes out to his family. I wish you love and light in these difficult days . “Aloe”. Jonathan and I go way back and stayed close over the years. Youth Group, activities brought us together and sailing became a passion. Wherever he went he made sure we stayed connected. We were suppose to go sailing just as the season ended... a reminder never to put off those things that are important in life. I will miss you, dear friend... blessings to all who celebrate your life with tears in their eyes!

Jonathon was one of my first loves when we were both just teenagers. We were so young, maybe 14, but I will always remember how he treated me. He was kind, an excellent listener, and so much fun to be around. He always treated me with such respect and love, and wanted me to feel special in any way that he could. Although we lost contact after we graduated from high school, I think back on those years with fondness. Our times with youth group were some of the best.

I met Jonathon during the pandemic. He had an idea to do a video series about ways to help improve your mental health during those times. I had volunteered to shoot the series for him, it was called Jerk Brain. He was a brilliant man and such an inspiration, I did not know him long but I could tell he was a wonderful person. My sincerest condolences to the family.

I had the pleasure of serving Jonathon as a customer while I was working at Backstage and King of Cups. Every time he would walk in, he would brighten up the place and put a smile on everyone nearby’s face. I will always remember and cherish his kindness and selfless care for all people. Jonathon’s impact on the lives of people he barely knew was positive and substantial. He will be greatly missed in the community!
To those that were close with Jonathon, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and I hope you are able to find strength and comfort.

I have been blessed and honoured with seeing Jonathon grow up and turn into an amazing man and special friend to me. I often told him that he was one of my favorite human beings.
He had the most amazing, unique, loving personality and made people feel special. He loved deeply and experienced so much in his short life. He knew how to live life, when he was well.
The biggest joy in his life was his son, Ewen. Everyone knew about Ewen whom he loved more than anything and was so proud of him.
He touched so many people around the world and had no idea of his impact on others.
Meeting Jonathon was an event that people did not forget. He had the most beautiful energy around him and a huge, open smile with twinkling eyes: oh and of course that big belly laugh.
He knew how to make “this old girl” feel special. I know that he is up there now laughing at that statement. I will miss our visits, great conversations your beautiful presence.
Jonathon had a light in him that has been extinguished but he will NEVER be forgotten.
