To Winnie’s Children:
So very sad to hear of your Mother’s passing. Many fond memories of your Mom & Dad from years passed, especially of you three kids nailing down the floor of our first house in 1975. Unfortunately we just lost John on June 14th so we feel your grief. Prayers of comfort to all of you.

She was my grade two school teacher. One of my favourite teachers. She taught me cursive writing to which I have gotten compliments all my life.

We are truly saddened to hear of Winnieś passing. Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Winnie.
She was such a gracious and generous person. She made our time in Nova Scotia so much better just by being herself.
We truly enjoyed the times we had with Winnie as a docent at Crombie House and will always remember her when we see any Group of Seven Art. Winnie shared a few of her famous recipes with me in the kitchen at Crombie and I always use her whipped shortbread recipe. I have somehow misplaced the Cape Breton Oatcake recipe so if you should come across it feel free to share with me as it is the best.
Miss you dearly Winnie.

Oat Cakes
1/2 c butter; 1/2 c shortening; 1/2 c wh sugar; 1/2 tsp soda in 2 tbsp hot water
1 1/2 c rolled oats; 1 1/2 c flour; 1 tsp salt
Cream butter and shortening until very creamy. add sugar. Cream well. Add water and soda. Add dry ingredients an dmix well. Form into a ball. Roll out on floured board, using flour and rolled oats. Cut into squares using a sharp knife. Bake at 400 until light brown. (This doubles well for more cookies!)

Teaching with Winnie was such a pleasure! She had so many talents and her sense of humour and wit made many a day a cheerful one, not only for her students, but staff as well. Memories of her as a friend and colleague will be cherished.
