Obituary of Eric David Hartling

Eric David Hartling (Smokey) 68, passed away suddenly in his home August 9, 2022 in Stellarton, Nova Scotia. Smokey was born March 5, 1954 to Bernard Hartling and Muriel (Jimmy)Malcom. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Muriel Hartling and his beloved Aunt Monica. His brother Andy Hartling, George Hartling, and Bernard Hartling; his sister Alma Hartling. He is survived by his brother Vernon Hartling (Rhonda) and his sisters Belinda Hartling (Richie) and Valerie Hartling. His son David MacLean (Beaty) and daughter Laura MacLean (Ray). His grandchildren Zackery MacLean, Christian Oliver, Madison MacLean, and Sadie Oliver. His dear friends Kathy MacNaughton, Pete Linthorne, and Tim McKinnon and many nieces and nephews. Smokey spent many years working at Trenton Works, when the company closed its doors, he loved the new adventure of working out west with Clac and KBR. In Smokey’s younger years he was always up for a good party with friends. He later traded that in for early mornings at the rink watching his grandkids and friends play hockey and wouldn’t miss a good yard sale. Smokey loved sports of all kind. He played on many ball teams throughout the years. He loved his team the Montreal Canadians and rarely missed a game. Smokey was Often seen at the local rinks or ball fields taking in a game whether it was his grandkids or friends’ kids. He also enjoyed a good book on the swing in the yard. Smokey thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and loved every minute of being a grandfather. Many nights were spent driving them and their friends from place to place or just to cruise the town and listen to music. He always went above and beyond to make sure they were happy and will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm on Sunday, August 14 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Smokey may be made to his family. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday August 14th following the visitation from 4pm-6pm at the Stellarton Legion. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
