Obituary of Frederick Joseph Avery Frederick Joseph Avery, 79, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital on Thursday, June 9, 2022, with family by his side. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Abraham Avery and the late Margaret (Guthro) Avery. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, (Dee) Edith Mae (Cameron) Avery; son, John Frederick Avery (Cathy); daughter Nina Suzanne Avery (Bob); grandson, Sean Michael Cyr; nephews Alan, Fred, Stephen, Billy, and niece Tara; as well as many cousins with whom he had great times while growing up. He was especially close with his Aunt Helen and Uncle Kenny (recently deceased). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter, Cathy Lee Avery, and his sister, Mary Catherine (Bunnie) MacDonald. From a young age, Fred loved antique cars and attending car shows and swap meets. He especially enjoyed his car hunting adventures with "The Boys" near and far. Another passion was music, playing guitar and singing with family and friends at campfires, house parties and jam sessions. Next came the keyboard at which he'd spend long hours playing his favourites tunes. Fred lived a full life working hard and providing for his family. Many wonderful memories were made at family gatherings, trips and vacations. He retired from Marsh Adjustment Bureau at age 55. Afterward, he and Dee spent a few months in the warm Florida sunshine. He was a member of the Westville Rotary Club and a longstanding member of The Pictou County Antique Car Club. We wish to extend the family's deepest appreciation to the Continuing Care Program; the Red Cross; and the VON/NND - with a special thank you to his CCA, Katelynn. Also our deepest appreciation to the Aberdeen 4 South, and the 5th Floor Palliative Wing. The nurses and doctors were above and beyond with their caring support. Cremation has taken place and per Fred's wishes, a family only graveside committal will be carried out, the date yet to be announced. Donations in his memory may be made to the VON or Red Cross or Palliative Care Unit. angusfuneralhomes.
