CUMMINGS, BERNETTE Cummings, Bernette- It is with great sadness that we the family announce the death of our beloved mother on December 26, 2021, at the age of 97. Mom was born at Little Bras d'Or, Cape Breton on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1924 to the late John Robert Young and the late Annie Beatrice (Boutlier) Young. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Benvie Cummings and daughter Sue Ellen Cummings. She was predeceased by six brothers: John Charles, James Walter (Lou), Henry, Edward, Melvin, Joseph William, three sisters: Matilida (Dot)LeBlanc, Ellen (Nellie)LeBlanc and Clance Robinson. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to mourn her loss are daughters: Carolyn Cummings (Dartmouth); Leanne (Brian) Morgan, Prince George, British Columbia; Linda (Lloyd) MacKay, New Glasgow; and son Ben (Ann) Cummings, Pine Tree; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mom was a very private person who was an avid reader, wrote poetry, had a wonderful imagination and was very kind. She had a memory like a vice and never forgot a birthday or an anniversary. In keeping with Mom's wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Under the guidance of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. A private graveside burial will take place in the Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Special thanks to Dr. Sharma, Dr. Alamri, Dr.Jazrowi and nurses (4th Floor) Amanda and Merrilee for the excellent and compassionate care given to Mom.
