Helen “Claire” Sutherland, passed away on November 27, 2021 at the Valley View Villa, Riverton. Claire was born in Stellarton on Sept. 24, 1927, and was the eldest daughter of the late W.D. (Ding) and Margaret (Howard) Watters. She was a resident of Riverton for 46 years; before moving to Stellarton and then to Valley View Villa, Riverton in 2015. Claire was employed by the New Glasgow, NS branch of the Royal Bank for a number of years. She was a member of Sharon St. John United Church in Stellarton and a member of the Anglican Church of Canada. Claire was a member of the UCW of Sharon St. John United and the Riverton Community Club. Claire was predeceased by her husband Ian Donald Sutherland in 2000; by a brothers Harvey Warren (killed in action in Italy), and Bill; sisters Mary Bayer, Margaret Brownelle, and Anna Campbell. She is survived by her cousin Elva Gordon and seven nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service at Claire’s request. A public graveside service will be held at 10am Wednesday in the Riverton Cemetery with Rev. Karen Ross presiding. Donations may be made to Sharon St. John United Church; Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton or a charity of your choice.
