She was predeceased by her partner, Matt Marshall in 1990, and brothers-in-law Alan Cogan and William Byrne. Sara attended Bailey’s Brook Primary School and East Pictou Rural High School, and always excelled in learning. She chose to be a teacher and graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College and taught school in Cape Breton, Antigonish and Pictou counties, Halifax, Toronto and Edmonton, specializing in history and mathematics. Later Sara left teaching and graduated from Durham Regional College, Ontario, with an Accounting Diploma. She returned to NS working for the Arisaig Fisheries and later opening her own accounting business in Murray River, PEI. Later she joined the staff of Anchor Motors, New Glasgow, retiring in 2006.
