It is with profound sadness the family of Gerry McKinnon age 79 announce his passing on Dec 23rd, 2020. Born in New Glasgow to the late Gerald C McKinnon formally of Wallace and Bridget M McKinnon formally of English Harbour West Newfoundland. Jerry attended school in Lourdes. Later he would attend NSIT to study Mechanics. There was nothing he liked talking about more than his former army days, having served with 1st Battalion, PPCLI, (Airborne), including as part of the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus. He also served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and later on the Canadian Coast Guard Ship John A. MacDonald. He worked several jobs later in life, mostly in construction. Surviving is his loving wife of 57 years Lois McKinnon (Mackenzie), daughter Cathy Stewart (Mitch), New Glasgow; son Jerry McKinnon (Anita), Westville; daughter Lisa McKinnon (Rob), Westville; and son Rob McKinnon (Pam), Halifax; grandchildren, Bekki, Lyndsey , Graham , Greg, Morgan and Ben and 5 great grandchildren; brother Don Power (Carol Anne), North Sydney; brother Bob McKinnon (Linda),NL; sister Isabelle Henderson, Stellarton; and sister Leslie MacEachern (Randy), New Glasgow. Besides his parents Jerry was pre-deceased by his beloved sister Dianne and his brother Jim . Cremation has taken place and a private ceremony will take place at a later date. We would like to thank the wonderful care dad received while at the Aberdeen Hospital and especially his nurse on four South Daniel.
