Mary Marcella Stewart (MacDonald) age 91 of Thorburn passed away December 5, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow. Mary was born in Truro on October 29, 1929 to the late Henry Dan and Florence (Spencer) MacDonald. Mary and her husband Murray Ross Stewart of 66 years lived in Thorburn all of their married life. Mary was known and loved by all her neighbours and friends. She was the life of a party, and enjoyed a good old belly laugh. She wrote many funny poems to read at birthday parties, anniversaries and special occasions. In her younger years Mary loved to dance and she and Murray had many whirls around the dance floor. She was an elegant skater and enjoyed skating around the rink or pond on the arm of a handsome partner. Mary was known for her love of decorating for all holidays. For many years she played Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny for all children in the neighbourhood. Her home on Halloween was the place to be with her costumes, decorations, pranks, fireworks and of course her famous candy apples. She enjoyed her weekly hair appointments with her faithful friend Claudette. As fearless and fun Mary was, the first crack of thunder would have her running for cover under a blanket. Mary was a faithful and dedicated member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn. Mary is survived by her loving husband Murray Ross Stewart, daughters, Wendy (Robert), Trenton; Debbie Sangster (Al Harris), Scotsburn; Wanda Sampson, Las Vegas; sisters Karen MacDonald; Dorothy (Gerald) MacLellan. Grandchildren Molly, Allison, and Melanie. Great-grandchildren Rhyli, Adeline and Harlow, nephew Paul (Tena) MacLellan and niece Judith MacLellan. Due to Covid-19 there will be no public visitation. A private family service will be held in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with John Reeves officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery. Donations can be made in Mary’s memory to Union Presbyterian Church or Thorburn Cemetery.
