Myla Gertrude (Holmes ) MacDonald
NEW Glasgow – Myla Gertrude (Holmes) MacDonald, 73, New Glasgow, formerly of Stellarton, passed away November 19th in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Antigonish, NS, she was the daughter of the late Leslie and Reta (Snyder) Holmes. She spent her early years growing up in Mulgrave, NS before her family moved to Stellarton, NS. After high school she went to work for the Royal Bank. Shortly after she was transferred to Toronto for a few years before returning home to work at the Bank of Montreal in New Glasgow where she was employed for nearly thirty years. Over the years she was actively involved in many community groups including the Stellarton Spring Fling Committee, Stellarton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Our Lady of Lourdes CWL and the Thistle Quilting Guild. After retiring from the bank she worked at Atlantic Fabric, which as everyone knew was a labor of love. Myla was passionate about her arts and crafts and especially quilting. She taught quilting to dozens of students over the years and made countless quilts for family, friends and charities.
She is survived by her sons Seamus (Leslie) Mannion, North Carolina; Kevin (Jessica) Mannion, Toronto; sister Barbara (Dennis) Payne, Massachusetts; brothers Lionel Holmes, Stellarton; Steve Holmes, Truro; and Leslie Holmes Jr., Westville;
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Sunday at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton.
A memorial service will be held 11 A.M on Monday for family and invited guests from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Barrett -Clare Johnson officiating . A brief burial ceremony will immediately follow the service in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Masks are required and social distancing must be followed.
