Amherst ,Riverton Allan Durwood Conklin, age 82 passed away on 14 November, 2020 at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Allan was born in Belleville, Ontario on 21 December 1937. He was the son of the late Durwood and Pearl Conklin. After marrying and starting a young family, he and Marilyn decided to move east to Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1976. He enjoyed having a hobby farm outside of Amherst growing blueberries, making honey and having a few farm animals. Later moving into Amherst, he and Marilyn enjoyed playing dominoes, attending the Friends Unlimited Church Group and spending time with family and friends. One of his largest joys was antique guns. He enjoyed restoring them, target shooting with them and most of all, talking about them to anyone who would listen. He loved to tinker in his work shop and had a knack for fixing or restoring just about anything to make it like new. Allan was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn, who passed too soon after a courageous battle with cancer in 2010. Also predeceased by his sisters Jean (Harold) Hartt and Marian (John) Walt. Sister and brother in-laws Elizabeth (Cecil) Moore, Rod Miller, Donald Fraser, Delbert Fraser and Lloyd (Donna Nichols) Fraser. He is survived by his children Aaron (Terry) Conklin, Hopewell, N.S., Stephen (Frances Cooper) Conklin, Hopewell, N.S. and Tracy (Jim) Gauthier, Carleton Place, ON. His grandchildren Laura (Mathias) Svensson, Vasteras, Sweden, Katelynn (Brian Cotter) Conklin, Halifax, N.S., Shane Smith, Grand Manan Island, N.B., Taylor Gauthier, Carleton Place, ON and great grandchildren Theo and Spencer Conklin and Harley Cotter. Also survived by son Stephen Conklin’s blended family Gordi Cooper ,Tallahassee Florida, great grandchild Gordon Frank . Amber Cooper , Westville ,N.S. , greatgrandchildren ,Dylan ,Sawyer ,Kinsley ,Sailyr, Laelynn ,Beckham , Holden and stepchild Andrew Gerrior ,Halifax ,N.S. He is also survived by his sister Lois (Bill) Johnston, Consecon, ON and sister in-laws Jean Miller, Colburne, ON, Gloria Fraser, Amherst, N.S. and Carolyn (Victor) MacLeod Jackson’s Point, N.S. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Valley View Villa, Riverton, N.S. for his care over the last few years. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Angus Funeral Home.
