Obituary of Lois I Mitchell
Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Lois Isabel (Wilson) Mitchell, at the age of 91 in Glen Haven Manor on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Mom was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Benvie Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter Gayle (John Robert) Sobey and their children Christine (Joe) Idy, Kirsten (Dan) Lacasse, Christopher (Colleen) Sobey, Jana (Ryan Skelton) Sobey, and Lindsay (Jared) McGee; her son Robert (Bobby) (Marilyn) Mitchell and their family Rebecca (Jeff) Lanthier, and Jonathan (Emily) Mitchell. Lois has seventeen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Nelson and Georgina (MacLeod) Wilson. Lois was the second youngest child in a family of five. She was predeceased by her sisters Kathryn Wilson, Ferna (Murray) Huggan, and Velma (Johnnie Governor) MacDonald. She is survived by her brother Nelson (Rene) Wilson as well as several nieces and nephews.
Lois was employed by Nova Scotia Power in their Stellarton office for 31 years from where she retired in 1989. She enjoyed participating in outings with the ladies in her office which continued well after her retirement. Lois and Bob loved to travel and created many memories via their numerous annual winter trips to Florida, and Cuba, etc. with Nelson and Rene, their summer vacations to Prince Edward Island with their close friends Jean and Al (Lib) Livingstone, as well as their fall road trips to the New England States to name a few! In addition to travel, Lois especially enjoyed hosting her family and grandchildren at her home for Sunday lunch where her biscuits were always a hit!
Lois resided at Glen Haven Manor for the past six years where she received excellent care by the professional staff on Ocean Drive. Lois’s family extend our heartfelt thanks to the many staff members who provided outstanding care to Mom while she was a resident there. In addition, we would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the nursing staff and CCAs who provided exceptional end of life care to Mom and who couldn’t do enough to support her family at this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at the Thorburn Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Lois may be made to the Glen Haven Manor Resident Fund, the SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
