Obituary of Douglas E. MacKay August 29th 1935 – August 29th 2020 Douglas Earl, 85 of the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Riverton, passed away peacefully at the manor on August 29th, 2020. Born in Riverton, he was a son of the late Chalmers and Della (Corbett) MacKay. Doug was a resident of the manor for the last 6 years. Doug loved his motorcycles and were his pride and joy. He and his wife June, spent several years on their motorcycles, travelling and enjoying time with friends. In addition, Doug loved to putter around in his garage and barn. He was at his happiest when he was tearing apart an old motor to rebuild, or fixing a car. Following their marriage, Doug & June built a home in Riverton, NS. He worked at the MacGregor Bedding for 21 years. Doug wanted to have his own business, so he and June moved to Drumhead, Guysborough County NS, where they owned and operated a very successful general store. They decided after several years, they would move back to Pictou County, NS, where they ran another successful convenience store in Trenton, and resided above the store. Following this, they moved back to Riverton NS, to the home they had previously built. In the years following, they owned and operated the Riverton Trailer Court, and as well, Doug opened a Motorcycle Shop next to their home. Doug and June were caretakers at First United Baptist Church, New Glasgow NS, for many years, and along with that, delivered the Chronicle Herald until full retirement. Retirement allowed Doug to get back to his garage & barn, enjoying what he loved best. Doug is survived by a Sister, Joyce Pederson, Saltsprings; Special Niece & Caregiver, Sonya Sangster, Stellarton; as well as many other cherished nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife June (Sangster), a sister Marion Dickie, a brother Wilbert MacKay, and several sister & brother in laws. Many thanks to the staff of Whispering Tide at the Glen Haven Manor, who have taken such great care of Doug throughout his stay there; you are angels. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation, funeral or burial service. Donations may be made in Doug’s memory to a charity of one’s choice. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
