Kevin William Brown, 75, passed away June 22 in the palliative care unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. He was born on February. 28, 1945 in Sydney N.S. the son of Mary Theresa Brown. Kevin was pre-deceased by foster parents Donald Roderic and Mary MacDonald, as well as foster Brother James Duncan (Margaret) MacDonald of Glendale, Cape Breton. He returned often to visit them, as well as "Aunt Marie". In 1962, at the age of 17, Kevin moved to the New Glasgow area to attend the Junior Technical Institute for their Metal Worker program. It was at this time he began residing in Lourdes with his chosen family; Ray, Denise, Margaret and Beverly Savage. For the rest of his life he considered it "home". In 1966 he began work as a telegraph operator for C.P. Rail, and lived in Toronto and Oshawa Ont. Upon his retirement in 1990, Kevin returned to his beloved Lourdes. He resided there until he eventually moved to Bedford, where he worked part time for the Canadian Corps of Commissioners. 2 years ago Kevin was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, as well as other health conditions. He moved back to New Glasgow into Highcrest Manor, and then to Glen Haven. Many thanks to the staff at all 3 facilities for the excellent care he received. He is survived by chosen family members Margaret Savage, Truro; Beverly Savage-Childers (Larry),Florida; Godson Daniel (Tara) Dargavel; Nephew William Dargavel, as well as special lifelong friends Vernon and Eileen Stinson, New Glasgow. A Family graveside service will be held in Our lady of Lourdes Cemetery. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
