Obituary of Anne Matilda Henderson

Anne Matilda MacDonald (Henderson), 93, Greenwood passed away on June 21, 2020 in the Valley View Villa. Born in Rocky Mountain, Pictou County on November 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Tressia (Clyburne) MacDonald. She left home at an early age to work at the Gun Shop in Trenton during WWII. She met her husband at a dance in Egerton in 1944 and they were the first to be married in the East River St. Mary’s Presbyterian Church on May 30, 1945 and lived in Greenwood most of her life with a short time in Guysborough. She was very active in her community and church. She loved to bake, sew, crochet, knit, and had a talent for crafts. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Ladies Guild, a Life Member of the AMS, and a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #42 and had received her 70 year jewel and the Decoration of Chivalry. She was a loving, kind and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She worked at several places over the years retiring from McKean’s Flowers with whom she treasured their friendship. Surviving are her children Kenneth (Virginia), Coalburn; Susan, Greenwood; grandchildren Kenneth (Jane), Milton, Ont.; Kevin (Melissa), Kitchener, Ont.; Cathy (Darren), Dartmouth; great-grandsons Grant, Myles, Curtis, Riley, Lukas, Mikail, Jack, Kai and Erik; brother George F. MacDonald, Rocky Mountain; sisters Theresa Fraser, Garden of Eden; Shirley (Keith) Cruickshank, New Glasgow. She was predeceased by her husband Laurence; sisters Helen, Mae; brothers Daniel “Bud”, William, Robert, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth. A family visitation and funeral service will be held in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow with burial to follow in the Thorburn Cemetery. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn or the Thorburn Cemetery Association.
