Obituary of John Richard Collinson

New Glasgow: John Richard “Dick” Collinson, age 102 passed away on Sunday February 2, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Hebburn,Tyne Co. Durham, England he was the son of the late John Cunningham and Maria (Clarkson) Collinson. He became a Canadian Citizen in 1956. Dick worked as a Quality Control Supervisor with a woolen mill company - Paton Manufacturing Co. Ltd in Sherbrooke, Quebec from where he retired in 1982. Mr. Collinson enlisted with the Royal Air Force in 1939 and during World War II earned the 1939 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal and War Medal. Sgt. Collinson was discharged on June 1, 1949. He was a member of Branch #29 Royal Canadian Legion, Trenton. Dick was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and an Elder of the Kirk Session. He was the story-telling member of St. Andrews Thursday morning men’s coffee group. He is survived by his wife the former Ada (Pat) Elizabeth (Patriquin), a daughter Joan Woodley, Ontario; a son David(Edith) Collinson, British Columbia; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors from 1- 2 P.M. Saturday in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church from where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 P.M. in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Joon Ki Kim presiding. Burial will be at a later date in the Abercrombie Cemetery. Donations in memory of Dick may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
