Obituary of Alvera Gertrude Pettipas
Pettipas, Alvera Gertrude “Vera”- It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Alvera Gertrude “Vera” Pettipas announce her passing at the age of 85 on Sunday December 15th, 2019 in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 4th, 1934 to the late William & Gertrude Auld, Thorburn, Vera was a resident of Thorburn her entire life. Vera lived for her family and was a mother to so many. She was a devoted wife and mother. She could always be found in the kitchen baking many things, usually the cinnamon rolls she was known for. She would welcome everyone with a warm hug, a cup of tea and a listening ear.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 65 years, Mike “Ted”, Daughters; Sharon Smith (John Eriksen) Alma, Sheila Murphy, MacLellan’s Brook, Son; Kevin Pettipas, Thorburn. Grandchildren; Jolene (Jonathan) Dunphy, Halifax, Shalene (Lance) Munroe, Thorburn and Mike (Arielle) Pettipas, Westville. Great Grand Children; Madison, Abigail, Caleb, Chloe and Sloane. Sisters; Jean (John) Reid, Betty Lou Semple, Brother; Frank (Muriel) Auld. Sisters in law; Sybill Higgins, Catherine Jean Pitts. Brothers in law; Joe (Margaret) Pettipas, Billy (Elsie) Pettipas, as well as several nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers; Fred and Raymond, a sister Pearl Munro, sons- in- law; Glenn Martin, Huntley Smith and Warren Murphy.
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of life will be held at Sheila’s house #5 Second St MacLellan’s Brook Rd on Thursday December 19th, 2019 4-7pm. All are welcome to drop in and share their fond memories of Vera. Due to allergies please remain scent free if attending.
There will be a private family burial of ashes at a later date in St Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn.

If desired, donations in Vera’s memory may be made to St Ann’s Cemetery Society, Thorburn or The Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital.
Special thank you to Dr Gregor MacLean and Charlene, Dr Michael Brennan, Antigonish, Nurses and Staff on the 4th floor at the Aberdeen Hospital, Dr. Craig and Nan’s special girls in the oncology unit, Aberdeen Hospital as well as Dr Kwasnik and the wonderful staff and volunteers in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital.
