Obituary of Doreen Jane Canning
Stellarton : Doreen Jane Canning age 90 of Stellarton passed away on Friday October 25th, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Glasgow she was a daughter of the late Alex and Ida (Ross) MacKay, Stellarton. Doreen was a lifelong resident of Stellarton. She served for 50 years as secretary of the Southern Cross Rebekah Lodge #3 and was the treasurer of the MacLellan Fraser AMS. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Chesley, and her children Allan Canning of New Glasgow; Valerie Canning (Doug MacDonald) of Stellarton; Donna (Dale) Shackleton of Red Deer, Alberta. Also surviving are grandchildren, Melissa (Harold), Scott, Travis (Kelly), Tanner (Marissa), Tara, Tanya (Shawn), Vanessa (Andrew), John Allan (Jolene) and Chad. Great Grandchildren, Taylor (Carl), Braylin, Lucas, Logan, Reese, Quinn, Bennett, Alyssa, Tessa, Sara, Emma, Brooke, Zoe, Kale, Zachary and Kaden. Surviving siblings Fulton MacKay of New Glasgow; Tom (Wendy) MacKay of Kingston Ont.; Florence Langille of Westville. Doreen was predeceased by her daughter Debbie, granddaughter Crystal, sister Betty Jardine and brother Robert (Mac) MacKay. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Wednesday Oct 30th in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton.
