It’s with sadness I learn of the passing of Marion. I was unaware until just tonight and wanted to express my condolences to family.
Although it’s been 30 years since I actually worked with her at The Evening News, I used to pop in to visit her any time I was in the area.
My wife and I were newlyweds and I was transferred from our home in Charlottetown to New Glasgow. Marion sat directly outside of my office. Like, how lucky was I?
It’s quite a number of years since I have seen her but my memories of Marion are so very vivid. She, Linda Pellerine and Judy Austin took both my wife and I under their wings and were such A welcoming force to us. I often referred to them as our Pictou County Angels.
Marion was truly one of the kindest and genuine people I have ever met to this day. I can so relate to the well written obituary and recall her contagious warmth. I can also relate to the “time, hugs and tea” She took such great interest in our lives and always had time to listen and help us fit in to our new lives in New Glasgow. I was fortunate enough to get a hug pretty well every day (some times 2 !!). And not only do I recall her having her tea, I recall how she held her mug. She often put both of her hands around the mug. I find myself doing that myself some times and always think of Marion and smile.
She truly made Pictou County and the world a better place. I think all would agree that she earned a best spot in heaven with her Dan and her Lord.
If any of her descendants are ever in Charlottetown, please drop into The Olde Dublin Pub or Claddagh Oyster House downtown. I’d love to treat you a spirit or a cup of tea and share memories of this gracious lady, Marion Heighton.
Sincerely, Kent MacPhee, Charlottetown PEI

To the whole Heighton family,
My thoughts and heart are with you. Marion was so full of life, so beautiful, so positive and sweet. A friend to my Mama, who we lost just last year, she always made sure to invite her for walks, visits, and visited her when she was sick.
She raised a wonderful family and I hope she finds happiness in the afterlife sharing stories of her amazing life with her loved ones who passed before her.
xoxo
