Obituary of Shirley Rosemary J. Hillier
Hillier, Shirley Rosemary J.
It is with sad hearts that we announce the tragic passing of Shirley Rosemary Jane Hillier, 58 of MacPhersons Mills
Born in Willowdale, Pictou County, NS she was a daughter of the late Robert and Helen (MacDonald) Hillier.
She attended school in Rocky Mountain, East River St. Mary’s, Thorburn and East Pictou Rural High.
Her career with the post office began in 1982 and her last route was one of the longest rural routes in Canada serving RR.5. Her career spanned 36 years until the time of her death. Each customer was important and all the extras she performed were acknowledged and appreciated. Her dedicated service will be greatly missed by the communities she served.
Her loyalty and passion extended to the LGBTQ community. She was a social activist championing their rights. In CUPW New Glasgow, she served on the local and national human rights committees. A member of Bethany United Church and treasurer of East River St. Mary’s Cemetery, these were hallowed places that spoke to her of history and family.
Shirley was an avid reader, a fan of Agatha Christie, Robbie Burns or anything historical. A loyal fan of the Royal family, it delighted her to have a picture of her meeting Prince Charles.
Having an appreciation and collection of fine crystal, her skills extended to cooking, hunting and any mechanical challenge.
