Obituary of Amelia Christene Fraser
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother
Amelia Christene Fraser, 91, of Sutherland's River. Mom passed away on Saturday June 22, 2019 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow on September 14, 1927, she was raised in Sutherland's
River, a daughter of the late Mary (Sim) and Collingwood G. Ross.
Upon graduation from the former NGHS at age 17, she began teaching at various schools in Pictou County. Following her marriage to Gilbert, she stayed at home to raise their family. A born nurturer, Mom's love had no boundaries and she quietly filled the role of "Mother" to many others.
She was a dedicated member of Sutherland's River Presbyterian Church.
Over the years, she faithfully served many positions such as Church Treasurer,
Manager, Sunday School Teacher, and Choir member. She was a member of the Sara Jean MacDonald Missionary Society and at one point, she was the Corresponding Secretary for the Pictou
Presbyterial of the AMS.
Mom was a very strong supporter of Camp Geddie. In the past she was involved on various committees as well as being Treasurer for a number of years. She worked tirelessly to ensure that as many children as possible could have the opportunity to enjoy the "Geddie Experience".
Between Spring and Fall, Mom could be found working outside in her gorgeous flower beds and bountiful garden, both of which she shared with everyone.
She was admired for her outstanding knitting talent, her sense of humour, her wisdom, friendliness and was known to many as the "lady with the goats". Through-out her life, Mom was an active community member, volunteer for many organizations, a helpful and thoughtful neighbour and a loyal friend.
Simply put, Mom exemplified Love, Kindness and Christianity.
Surviving are her children: Greg (Marion) Fraser, Judy Fraser McArthur,
Peter (Debbie) Fraser, Susan (Craig) MacKay, grandchildren: Mark, Grant,
Erin, Matthew, Cameron, Kelly, Peter, Emily and Fraser; great-grandchildren: Riley, Olivia, Nicholas and Benjamin.
She is also survived by her special nephew: Jim Stewart and his children Lee and Mary; sister Nova Bannerman, brother-in-law Elmer Williams, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband Gilbert, sisters Vera Stewart and Peggy Williams, brother Grant Ross and infant grandson Sandy Fraser.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at
H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Memorial service will be held at 1 1 am Friday at Sutherland's River
Presbyterian Church with John Reeves officiating.
Reception to follow at the church.
Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm.
Family flowers only, please.
Donations may be given in Amelia's memory to Camp Geddie, Operation Smile or a charity of your choice.
"The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden, Than anywhere else on earth."
