Stellarton: Debra "Debbie" Elizabeth Canning age 64 of Stellarton passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with her loving family by her side.
Born in New Glasgow she was a daughter of Chesley and Doreen (MacKay) Canning of Stellarton
Debbie was a lifelong resident of Stellarton. She was a retired employee of Glen Haven Manor with 24 years, service, prior to which she worked at the Aberdeen Hospital. Debbie also worked as a bartender at the Stellarton Legion Branch 28 for many years.
Surviving are her parents Chesley and Doreen Canning, her only daughter and best friend Melissa Canning (Harold MacLeod) of Stellarton, her granddaughter Taylor, her bestest buddy, granddaughter Braylin (Miss Molly). Also surviving are her brother Allan Canning of New Glasgow, sisters Valerie Canning (Doug MacDonald) of Stellarton and Donna (Dale) Shackleton of Red Deer, Alberta, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Debbie’s biggest pride in life were her three girls. She loved shopping trips to the states with Melissa and her granddaughters. Debbie loved her Wednesday night TV and takeout dates with her Miss Molly, as well as sleepovers on the weekend. G-Mama was Taylor’s biggest fan in everything she did and especially proud for her to graduate as a pharmacist next week. Debbie had so much love for her family and enjoyed cooking supper for her parents, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters every week. Debbie’s hobbies included reading, puzzles and watching baseball. You can ask anyone who knew her, she was the Toronto Blue Jays biggest fan and would defend them until the very end.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Alex and Ida MacKay, paternal grandparents Archie and Mary Canning and a niece Crystal.
Cremation to take place, the family will receive visitors from 2-4 & 7-9 on Friday May24th in the H. C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. From where a memorial service will be held 2 P.M .on Sarturday May 25th with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Donations in memory of Debbie may be made to Jays Care Foundation Pictou County Challenger Baseball c/o Trevor Kearley P.O.Bx 945 Stellarton ,N.S. BOK1S0
