Obituary of John Charles Fraser

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Charles Fraser, 69, of MacLellan’s Brook, Pictou County, and formerly of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2019. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Doug and Mary (Rundle) Fraser. John proudly worked as an Engineer with Nova Scotia Power (NSP) for over 30 years, where he made significant contributions to many aspects of the company’s operations. He was a life member of the Engineers of Nova Scotia, past member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and past member of the Canadian Electricity Association. Even after retirement, he never missed the opportunity to participate in the annual NSP Golf Tournament in Cheticamp. John recently returned to the family farm in MacLellan’s Brook where – honouring the family tradition – he tended to a bountiful garden, harvested maple syrup, and played crib at the kitchen table. He also became actively involved in St. John Presbyterian Church in McLennan’s Mountain and joined the St. Andrew’s Society of Pictou County. John cherished fishing and hunting trips with the guys. John's overt passion for the outdoors drove his volunteer involvement in many organizations. He was Past President of the Board of Directors of the Halifax Wildlife Association, Treasurer of the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and a board member of both the Nova Scotia Wildlife Conservation Fund and the Eastern Angler’s Club. John is survived by his loving wife Elaine (Hattie), children Ashley, Andrew, and Mark, siblings Ann (Mike) Pollard, Emily (Dan) Patterson, and Bill (Karen Hattie), his very special mother-in-law Marion Hattie, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father-in-law Clayton Hattie. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 on Sunday, May 19th at the H. W. Angus Funeral Home located at 256 King Street in New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Monday, May 20th at St. John Presbyterian Church in McLennan’s Mountain, with Rev. Charles McPherson and Rev. Grant Johnston officiating. Burial will be at Castle Hill Cemetery in MacLellan’s Brook. No flowers by family request. Donations in memory of John may be made to St. John Presbyterian Church in McLennan’s Mountain, The Legacy of Life QE II Foundation, the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters, or a charity of your choice.
