John Douglas Anderson age 82 of Stellarton and formerly of Halifax passed away on Sunday April 28th ,2019 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital ,Antigonish. Born in New Glasgow he was a son of the late Philip and Georgina (Baxter) Anderson . John grew up in Stellarton having moved to Halifax at a early age where he was employed in the retail grocery business all of his working life. He enjoyed sports and working with his hands in his garden , John was an avid crossword puzzle fan. Surviving are a sister Helen Fisch and a brother Gerald R. (Dee) Anderson both of Ottawa , brother-in-law Philip Thomas of Abercrombie and sister-in-law Anne Cullen of Stellarton. A number of nieces and nephews , grand nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife the former Mona t. Morgan and a sister Phyllis Thomas. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and6-8 P.M. on Wednesday in the H.W.Angus Funeral Home 256 King St. New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 A.M. with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent to angusfuneral@ns.sympatico.ca
