Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Johnston

Margaret Elizabeth Johnston (Margie) age 94 of Thorburn, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at home with her family by her side. Born in New Glasgow she was the daughter of the late John M. and Ruth (Munroe) Fraser of Little Harbour. Margie grew up in little Harbour and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Margie was a resident of Thorburn most of her life where she was an active member of Union Presbyterian Church. She was the past president of the Ladies Guild and was also active in CGIT. Margie was a member of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge 42 for over 70 years, served as Past Noble Grand and received the Decoration of Chivalry. She also was the past president of the Thorburn Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. During her working years Margie was employed with Sobeys for many years.
She is survived by her sons Mason (Gisele), Moncton; Brian (Roxanne), Lyons Brook; Colin (Lois), Thorburn; daughter Leah Johnston, Thorburn; daughter-in-law Darlene Johnston, New Glasgow; grandchildren Christa (Barry), Jeff (Anne), Mark (Janet), Tanya (Mark), Alexis, Judd, step-grandchildren, Rachel, Tabatha, Tanya, Jessy; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters- in-laws Eudora Tupper, Tatamagouche; Mary Fraser, New Glasgow; Joan Fraser, Truro; many nieces and nephews.
Margie was predeceased by her husband Raymond Johnston, son Gary, daughter-in-law Paula, brothers Donald, Marshall (Gladys), Edwin, George and sisters Helen Walters (Clary), Isabel Laister (Vernon).
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 in the H.W. Angus Funeral home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 in Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn with Rev. John Finlayson officiating and John Reeves. Cremation to follow. Burial will take place at a later date in the Thorburn Cemetery. Donations in memory of Margie may be made to the Thorburn Cemetery Association, Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn or a charity of your choice.
