Obituary of Noel Martin

Please share a memory of Noel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LITTLE HARBOUR - Noel Francis Martin – 78 of Little Harbour, NS passed away on January 19, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on Dec. 8, 1940 and raised in Pictou Landing First Nation, he was the son of the late Maxime and Janet (Cope) Martin. During his teenage years, he met the love of his life, Madeline. Like many young Mi’kmaq people at the time, they migrated between the United States and Canada for work. Together they settled in Framingham, Mass. where they had their first two children. In those early years, Noel worked in various trades such as electrical, carpentry and masonry, but home was always calling. Noel and Madeline moved home and then settled in Little Harbour where they had two more children and focused on raising a loving family. Together they shared many pastimes such as archery, bow hunting, shooting pool and bowling in a local league. Noel devoted over 30 years of service with the Pictou Landing Band Council, several years as a Band Councillor and remaining years as Band Manager. After the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife in 2010, Noel sought solace in reading, often going through books faster than he received them. He especially enjoyed John Grisham novels, watching the Blue Jays play and spending time with this ever-growing family. Although we are devastated at the loss of our patriarch, we find comfort in knowing that he has reunited with his soul mate once again. Surviving are his daughters: Debbie (Arnold) Dykstra of Black Point; Donna (Paul) Woolley of Whites Lake; sons: Dwayne (Leanne) Martin of Masstown; and Paul (Cheryl MacDougall) Martin of Little Harbour; Grandchildren: Andrea, Janna-Leigh, Pieter, Christena, Chris, Marisa, Brett, Matthew and Brandon; Great-Grandchildren: Jacob, Emmett and Jethro; several nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 48 years, Madeline (Nicholas) Martin; sisters: Evelyn Martin, Susan (Martin) Smith; and brothers: William "Bill" Martin, and Alfred Martin. Visitation will be held at the H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow on Wednesday, January 23 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Pictou Landing First Nation with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Dinner and Salite will be held at the Michael Wayne Memorial Gymnasium in Pictou Landing following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Noel’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the VON and the doctors and nursing staff of the Aberdeen Hospital ICU for their exceptional care and consideration. angusfuneralhomes.com
