Obituary of Hubert Esling

Esling, Thomas Hubert: Bert, born on October 15, 1923 passed away peacefully at age 95 on December 11, 2018 while a resident of the Northumberland Veterans Unit in Pictou, Nova Scotia .
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen (Hooghe), a sister Phyllis Cameron, three children, Gary(Lee), Alan(Terry Little), Lori, 2 grandchildren: Heather Knowler(Shawn), Ryan(Lita), two great-granddaughters: Anya Esling and Hunter Knowler.
He was predeceased by his brother John Elmer (Tuggles).
Bert served with the Carleton and York Regiment in North Africa, Italy, Belgium and Holland during World War II .He later served for approximately twenty years in the Royal Canadian Air Force in various places in Canada as well as in France . Upon his release from the RCAF, he was until age 65, an employee of Michelin Tire Canada (Granton). His hobbies and interests included walking, gardening, curling and working at the Stellar Curling Club . He was also a member and valued volunteer at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 28 and 110 Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association, Stellarton.
The family would like to extend sincerest thanks and appreciation for the care, kindness, empathy and consideration exhibited to Bert and family by all employees of the Northumberland Veterans Unit.
A graveside service for immediate family members and interment will take place in the spring at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Bert’s memory may do so to The Northumberland Veterans Association, P.O.Box 1059 Pictou, NS BOK 1HO
