Obituary of Joseph Linthorne

Joseph "Jake" Duncan Linthorne, aged 78, of Foster Avenue, Stellarton, surrounded by his family, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Helen (MacNeil) Linthorne Geddes and the late Walter Linthorne. A lifelong resident of Stellarton, Joe was a construction welder for over 50 years, a member of Boilermakers Local 73, Truro, NS, and Pipefitters Local 244, Heatherton, NS. Joe’s personality was larger than life. Always the entertainer, he will be remembered for his musical talent, his quick wit, and gift of gab. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, and never missed watching a good boxing match. He loved his family and had many dear friends. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jean (Matthews) Linthorne, Stellarton; his three daughters, Michele (Jeroen Kok) Linthorne, Netherlands; Annette (Todd) St. Louis, Durham, NS; Nadine (Chris) Symonds, Quispamsis, NB; son Joseph (Jennifer) Linthorne, Riverview, NB. Survived also by his grandchildren: Brittany, Nick, Brandon, Sebastian, Zachery, and Devyn; great-grandchildren: Kai and baby Isla; brothers, Brian, Stellarton; Pete, Stellarton; Darrell (Connie) Bridgeville; a sister, Helen (Steven) Doucette, Hopewell; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Linthorne; brothers, James (Bo), Bernie, and Wallace; and step-father Eldred Geddes. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, August 30th, at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King St., New Glasgow, with Pastor John Thomas Linthorne officiating. A reception to celebrate Joe’s life, his love of family, friends, and music, will immediately follow at the Stellarton Fire Hall from 12-4 P.M. Due to severe allergies, the family kindly asks to respect a scent-free environment. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, or a charity of your choice.
