Obituary of Alexander Fraser Polley

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander "Sandy" Fraser Polley, of Pictou Landing on Aug. 6, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow at the age of 76. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Bertram and Jessie (Dickson) Polley. Sandy was a resident of Pictou Landing most of his life where he was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Sandy was also a member of New Caledonia Masonic Lodge No. 11 Westville in earlier years. Sandy was employed at Trenton Works for some 20 years, starting work at age 15 as a floor sweeper, followed by a welder which led into a management position. In keeping with the Polley family tradition, a second career followed as a commercial fisherman. Semi-retirement followed, with Sandy staying busy with a variety of projects, many related to the fishing industry. Sandy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie, Riverton; sons Peter (Kelley) Polley, Halifax; Adam (Nicole) Polley, Ingleside, ON; four wonderful grandchildren [Sarah, Katie, Chelsea and Joshua]; brother Grant (Pat) Polley, Abercrombie; sister Carole (Pat) McCarron, Stellarton. Sandy was predeceased by brothers Donald and Fred. Sandy was a devoted husband and father and a true family man, he will be missed dearly. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Pictou Landing with Rev. Lorne MacLeod officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the Garden of Eden Cemetery. Donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
