June 30, 2018 Balkwill, Kenneth Gordon, passed away June 28, 2018 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born July 15, 1931 in McLean, Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late Walter and Priscilla(Walkaden)Balkwill. Ken was the eldest of four siblings. Ken joined the RCMP and participated in their famous musical ride. Later he left the Mounties and joined the Metro-Toronto Police Force where he ran the Accident Car, which meant he was always first on scene to save lives until ambulances arrived. Later on he found a preference in solving white collar crime as opposed to homicides, leaving the force to work for the Oshawa Group chain of food and tower stores, to eliminate Embezzelment and Theft at the retail level. In 1975 he joined Sobeys Inc. in Nova Scotia where he headed up the Risk Management Department, travelling all of Nova Scotia as well as NB, NFLD, Quebec and Ontario until his retirement in 1997. Ken is survived by his wife Mary, his step-daughter Gina and her husband Trent MacDougall, their 2 sons Daniel and Aaron and 2 daughters Jennifer and Rebecca. Ken is also survived by his son Scott Balkwill, daughters Karen and Janice and their children; a sister Beth Rowe in Calgary, Alberta. He was predeceased by his brothers Donald and Wayne. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services by request of the family. angusfuneralhomes.com
