Obituary of Walter Swinamer
Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Walter Fraser (Walter) Swinamer, 82, passed away peacefully at Glen Haven Manor with his family by his side, on Sunday April 15, 2018. Born January 8th, 1936 in Island East River, Pictou Co., he was the son of the late Annabelle (Robertson) and Ross Swinamer, and the brother to Carl (Plymouth, Pictou Co) and the late Hugh.
Walter moved to Toronto in his late teens, where he would soon meet the love of his life of 58 years, Marie (Jack) Swinamer. It is here that they would bring into this world their two girls; Susan (Murray Kean), and Debbie (Swinamer) Wood. After a few years of working with Silverwoods Dairy, Walter and Marie moved back to NS, where they would add two boys, Wally and Rick (Roxanne) Swinamer, which would complete their family.
After settling back at home with his family in Pictou County, Walter became employed at Trenton Works and Scotsburn Dairy. With various jobs in between, Walter would later purchase Ralph's Catering Truck, where he was well known for his pleasant personality and humor around the community.
In his younger days, Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, a good camp trip and a cold beer while listening to some classic country. He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, Eureka, and Stellarton Legion for many years, where he was an avid dart player.
Anyone that knew Walter, will remember him for his quick witt, smart comebacks and much appreciated compliments.
Walter was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He thought the world of his family. There is nothing he would not have done for his children and seven grandchildren. His two young great-grandchildren were the apples of his eye. He held a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews. Walter was also grateful for his chosen daughter, Debbie Walsh.
Funeral arrangements have been made with H.W. Angus Funeral Home in NG, for Friday April 20th 2018 at 2pm. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Thursday April 19th, 2018 at Angus Funeral Home.
