Turnbull, Doris Jean, age 77, of Stellarton (formally Greenwood), passed away peacefully at the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou, surrounded by family, on April 3, 2018. Doris was a beautiful person with a kind and selfless heart who loved her family and friends dearly. She will be greatly missed. Born in Greenwood, she was the daughter of the late John W. Reid & Georgina (Livingstone) Reid - Doyle. Doris is survived by her beloved siblings: sister, Carol Reid (Greenwood) and brother, Robert (Margie), MacLellan's Mountain. She is predeceased by her brother, Johnny. Doris was the loving wife of the late Douglas (Slug) Turnbull. She and Douglas enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. Doris was a cherished mother to her five children: Douglas "Dougie", Little Harbour; Brian (Rhonda), Dartmouth; Beverly, Trenton; Jeffrey (Darlene), New Glasgow and Darren (Denise), Falmouth. She was also a treasured Nannie to Crystal, Devon, Travis, Cameron, Kristen, Alanna (Sandy), Bryden (Rod), Karleigh, Kurtis, Taylor, Mackenzie, Keigan and the 'bestest' Great- Nannie to Olivia and Sadie. Doris is also survived by sister in laws, Mary and Marjorie (Buddy); brother in laws Sam (Leona) and Ronald (Eileen) as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by sister in law, Elsie; brother in laws, Jim, John, Harold, Denny, Mel; nephews, Stephen and Matthew and niece, Vickie. Doris was fun loving, warmhearted and thoughtful. She very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved taking trips with Sam and Leona or simply looking at family photos over a cup of tea. She was a resident of Greenwood for most of her life, where she was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. Doris was also an avid bowler in which she participated in numerous leagues along side her life long friend Carrol Arbuckle. Doris and her husband Douglas also volunteered at the Pictou County Food Bank for several years. In her younger years, her work life ranged from the candy counter at the Academy Theatre to waitressing at the Heather Hotel. She worked at Zellers until Kmart opened its doors, where she stayed until they closed 25 years later and she retired. After leaving Kmart she went on to provide in home care for several families. She was the matriarch of the family and was much appreciated and well respected for the many roles she fulfilled. Doris will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We are left with many beautiful memories of her to cherish for a lifetime and for that we are thankful. The sincerest of appreciation to all the staff at the Maritime Oddfellows Home for providing Doris with such exceptional care and wonderful compassion during the end of her stay.
