Obituary of Mary E. Olding

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Esther Olding,age 91 on March 30th, 2018 with her family by her side at the Glen Haven manor, New Glasgow, NS. Born March 13th, 1927 in Baddeck Bridge, and formerly residing in Stellarton and Merigomish, NS, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Natalia "Nellie" (Cotrillo) Leaver. Mom was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Mom was a proud Cape Bretoner with a quick wit and no filter, full of the devil (her words), she loved a good laugh. She was formerly employed by the James Diner in Sutherlands River and the Clairtone Factory, Stellarton where she had fond memories. In more recent years she could be found selling her crafts at the Highland Square Mall Flea Market each Sunday. Survived by her son Ron (Colleen) Olding, Merigomish, NS; daughters: Diane McCann (Jimmie Stroud),Stellarton, NS; Marion (George)Gould, Black Rock, NS; Karen (Ron) Hughes, Churchville, NS. Grandchildren: Nick (Lorenne) Olding, Barneys River, NS; Elisha (David) Lake, Barneys River, NS; Connie Dewtie, Truro, NS; Melissa Dewtie, Truro, NS; Allan Gould, Black Rock, NS; Tammy Gould, New Minas, NS; Eddie Hughes, Churchville, NS; Holly (Andrew) Fairn, Churchville, NS; Shannon Hughes, New Glasgow, NS. 12 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her stepfather Joseph Smith, husband, William Purdue Olding, brothers, Jim and Charles "Jake" Leaver. sisters, Theresa MacNeil, Dorothy Nadeau. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.W. Angus funeral home. There will be no visitation or service by request, private family interment will be at a later date. Donations may be made to Riverview Cemetery Merigomish or the IWK Hospital for Children.
