Obituary of Germaine MacNeil

MacNeil, Germaine, 98, of High Crest Place, New Glasgow, formerly of Stellarton, passed away October 11, 2017, at the Aberdeen Hospital, with loved ones by her side. Born in Stellarton she was a daughter of the late John and Alberta (Facey) MacLellan. Germaine spent her entire life loving and nurturing her family as well as friendships past, present, and future. Right up to the end, she displayed an incredibly accurate memory. There was never a person she met that she couldn’t connect the dots to their heritage in Pictou County and give them information on their families that they may never had known. She loved people and was a strong conversationalist through her 98 years until her passing. She was a loving Nana who will be sorely missed but always remembered. Germaine is survived by her grandchildren: Steven (Susan Dale Smiley) Hecimovich, Dartmouth; Germaine (Daniel) Duffy, Dartmouth; William (Cheryl) Hecimovich, Dartmouth; 10 great- grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Edna MacLellan, Dartmouth; Murdena MacLellan, New Glasgow; Leona and Sam Turnbull, Stellarton, loved like a daughter and son-in-law; step-son John (Alice) MacNeil; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her first husband Clarence W. Lowe, second husband Ormal S. MacNeil, a son, Clarence M. Lowe, a daughter M. Cavell Hecimovich, brothers: Daniel, Alex, Peter and Colin MacLellan; sisters E. Cavell Barr, Lilly MacLellan and grandson-in-law John Dauphinee. Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton, for visiting from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday from where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Jim Shaffner presiding. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens following the reception.
