KILFOIL, Murray Edward(1938-2017)-
It is with great sadness that the loving family of Murray Edward Kilfoil announce his passing on Sunday, May 28, 2017. He passed peacefully at the beautiful Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit after a courageous battle against the rare genetic disorder Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (A1AD).
Born January 13, 1938 in Johnville, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Vincent and Mary (Crain) Kilfoil.
Survived by wife Margaret "Peggy" (Pratt); children David, Fredericton, NB; Catherine "Kati", Halifax; Kevin (Doreen), Milton, ON; Michael (Eileen), Halifax; grandchildren Christine, Ryan, John "Jack" and Katherine; sisters Frances Johnston, Fredericton and Margaret McHarg, Saint John, NB.
Predeceased by his brothers William, Raymond, Gerald, Harold and two infant brothers Clarence and Joseph, and nephews Martin and Eric Kilfoil.
Murray was the first in the Kilfoil family to study Engineering (University of New Brunswick) and was a Life Member of the Association of Professional Engineers of the Province of Nova Scotia. Upon graduation in 1961 he worked for NBTel, and then Bathurst Consolidated Paper in 1967. In 1970 Murray moved his family to New Glasgow to begin his long career at the pulp mill that was then then known as Scott Maritimes in Abercrombie Point, NS.
Murray was a dedicated volunteer his whole life. Upon retirement he once quipped, "I don’t know how I found time to work before!" He was a long-time director with the Pictou County Co-Op, and was active with Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, the Town of New Glasgow Planning Commission, LORDA, and numerous other organizations.
He had a passion for gardening and the outdoors and was an avid curler, wood worker and wine maker. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9pm Wednesday at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Barrett Clare-Johnson as celebrant. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Murray may be ade to Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ghoreishi and Dr. Hack for their extraordinary care, and the dedicated VON home care workers who supported Murray in his final months.
