Obituary of Helen McInnis
Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Stellarton-
McInnis (Legere), Helen Alberta: age 90, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2017, surrounded by loving family.
Born in Abney, PEI (and a proud Islander her whole life), she was a daughter of the late Mathias and Hazel(Giddings) Legere.
Helen loved family gatherings, knitting, baking and spending time with her family, the younger being her favourites. After completing high school Helen worked two years at MT&T before marrying Don and raising four boys in Stellarton where she lived the rest of her life. While managing a welcoming home and keeping a rein on four boys, Helen worked for twenty years at Glen Haven Manor. Ma was a generous mother who was our protector and always had our best interest in mind while shouldering our many burdens at her own expense. With the arrival of her grandchildren, Nan always seemed to be revitalized and her grandchildren considered themselves privileged that she was such a big part of their lives. She enjoyed them immensely. She was equally blessed with the arrival of her twelve great grandchildren. Helen never had a girl of her own but considered nieces Ronda White and Lori Murphy to be her daughters. All Helen’s nieces and nephews enjoyed her warmth and quick wit and she relished their company. Helen’s daughters-in-law, Linda, Maureen and Diane were like daughters to her and the feeling was mutual. Ma could easily laugh, especially at her own expense and classic stories involved Ma’s miss-hearings while playing with Helen, Emily and Matthew when visiting them in Ottawa and her learning to drive experiences. She is survived by her son Ted (Diane), St. Margarets Bay; special daughters Ronda (Paul White), Ottawa; Lori Murphy, MacLellan’s Mtn; sisters: Ellen Murphy, Trenton; Sylvia Hawbolt, Churchville; grandchildren: Jillian, Donnie, Gayle, Bryce, Sarah, Robyn, Joseph, Rebecca, Jamie, Douglas and Bradford, twelve great- grandchildren. Predeceased by husband Donald, parents Mathias and Hazel, sons Donald, Gregory and Rod, grandson Burton and sisters Linda Fraser and Vinnie Butler and Bessie Eva in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request.
Funeral Mass will be held 11am Monday May 22, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall. Burial following the reception in the Bridgeville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food bank.
Ma always hated the thought of people being hungry and cold.
